NEWS FLASH: "VICTIMS" Are NOT in Control of Assault Prosecutions
A common occurrence I see is an assault defendant believing the State will drop charges because the "victim" signed an affidavit of nonprosecution or spoke to someone at the DA's office and expressed they won't show up for prosecution. Here is the reality- cops make probable cause decisions for arrest. Cops get sick of being called to "stop an argument." Generally speaking, the quickest way I have seen cops stop harassment (being constantly called out for what is not their job) is to make an arrest. Assaults are generally she said/he said. All it takes is someone saying they experienced pain. There does not have to be blood or a mark. "Victims" that are so quick to call the cops over a disagreement and then try to control the narrative generally do not do well in the court system. Cops are not therapists. Prosecutors make decisions to prosecute on things like: evidence, past criminal history, witnesses, etc. I easily ascertain the men who are being falsely accused of assault. I get disgusted when I see fake victims who are going through the motions to "get their way" or "teach someone a lesson." Remember, a victim is never in control of the narrative- the prosecutor is. In trial, that may be the defense. Juros are excellent at smelling foul play and using common sense. Also, men can be just as much a victim as a female. Call 1-800-799-7233 if you need support as a victim of domestic abuse.
